Junior Pro Serves Up a Cinematic Slice of Hope with 'Coq au Vin'

Nashville’s indie landscape has always been a refuge for those who prefer the steady hum of craft over the frantic chase of the charts. Sitting comfortably at the heart of this ecosystem is Kyle Ryan, a musician whose CV reads like a directory of the city’s most interesting alternative exports. After years of shaping the sounds of others, Ryan is once again stepping into the foreground under his Junior Pro moniker, delivering a third single that feels both incredibly lived-in and refreshingly new.

The track, titled 'Coq au Vin', arrives via Easy Does It Records as a sophisticated piece of self-produced pop. It’s a song that prioritises atmosphere, shunning immediate hooks in favour of a slow-burn narrative that feels more like a short film than a standard radio edit. Recorded in the isolation of Wardenclyffe South, the single manages to feel expansive yet remarkably private, balancing a certain cinematic grandeur with a heavy dose of emotional restraint.

The inspiration for the track is as multifaceted as its production. Originally conceived for a film exploring the friction between the curated perfection of social media and the messy reality of motherhood, "Coq au Vin" eventually evolved into something broader.

“Coq au Vin is a fantasy, blueprints for the naive,” Ryan explains. “It was originally written for a short film about the instagram vs reality of motherhood, but it became a musing on the stupid hope that makes La vie en rose! It is, of course, impossible or is it?”

This philosophical tug-of-war is a hallmark of the Junior Pro project. Ryan’s musical DNA is a unique blend; he spent his formative years in Nebraska oscillating between the raw energy of NOFX covers and the intricate structures of Duke Ellington. That duality—the punk’s instinct for truth and the jazzman’s love for complexity—has defined his career since moving to Nashville in 2006. Whether he was serving as the Musical Director for Kacey Musgraves or collaborating with the likes of Dr. Dog and Natalie Prass, Ryan has always been a "musical chameleon."

With a collaborative track featuring Prass already on the horizon, Junior Pro is quickly becoming one of the most compelling solo ventures of the year. It’s a project built on decades of experience, proving that sometimes the best way to move forward is to look inward.

'Coq au Vin' is available to stream now on all major platforms. To keep up with Junior Pro’s evolving world, you can follow Kyle Ryan on Instagram for updates on upcoming releases.
