Hailing from the South of England, Asgard Raven—the moniker of singer-songwriter Joe—is quickly becoming a vital voice in the modern indie-rock landscape. His latest offering, ‘Let Go’, is a masterclass in blending raw, lived-in storytelling with the soaring, anthemic energy of 90s Britpop.
Joe’s path to music is far from conventional. His songwriting is deeply rooted in his history, with many of his tracks born from his experiences during deployments in the Army. This military background, combined with a lifelong passion for extreme sports like skydiving and motorcycling, infuses his music with a unique perspective: it’s at once disciplined, daring, and profoundly human.
With ‘Let Go’, Asgard Raven leans into a rich tapestry of influences. While the DNA of punk, rock, and blues is evident, the track’s most striking quality is its nod to the golden era of Britpop. It’s a sound that evokes the grit and melody of early Oasis or The Verve, yet it remains firmly planted in the present thanks to its crisp, professional production.
The track was recorded at the renowned Sunrise Sound Studio in Hampshire, where Joe worked closely with producer Marc Burford (of the indie band Echotape). The final polish was applied at The Animal Farm’s studio in London, with Mat Leppanen handling the mixing. This collaborative powerhouse has created a "wall of sound" that feels both expansive and intimate.
Lyrically, ‘Let Go’ strikes a universal chord. It explores the psychological weight of nostalgia and the fear of being left behind by time. Joe describes the track as being about: “Hanging on to the past, scared of being forgotten, and the struggle to let go sometimes in order to move on.”
It’s this vulnerability that has already earned him a growing global following. Asgard Raven has already secured airplay and support from heavyweights like Radio X, BBC, and Amazing Radio, marking him as one of the UK’s most promising independent exports.
In a world that moves too fast, ‘Let Go’ is a necessary reminder that while the past shapes us, we can’t stay there forever. For more, be sure to join Asgard Raven on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok.
