Brooklyn outfit Ok Cowgirl has a knack for finding the exact point where a daydream begins to fray at the edges. Their latest single, ‘It Wasn’t You, It Was The Feeling’, released today via Easy Does It Records, explores that specific, disorienting haze of mistaking a rush of adrenaline for a genuine connection. It’s a track that feels both weightless and grounded, trading in the kind of indie-pop wisdom that only arrives after the dust has settled.
Working alongside producer Alex Farrar—whose credits with Wednesday and MJ Lenderman have made him a staple of modern indie-rock textures—the band has crafted a soundscape that mirrors the internal tug-of-war of the lyrics. Shimmering synths and expansive guitar work provide a lush backdrop, but the secret sauce here is the dual-layered percussion.
The track was born during the final hours of a productive studio stint, carrying the loose, self-assured energy of a band that has found its rhythm. Frontwoman Leah Lavigne notes that the recording captured a unique headspace:
“When I listen back, I can hear the confidence of having been in the studio for ten days straight. It felt like doing a victory lap. The song reflects on confusing the thrill of connection with actually having feelings for someone. It’s about chasing that high and realizing the difference.”
This "victory lap" atmosphere was bolstered by Farrar himself, who stepped out from behind the glass to join the arrangement. Lavigne recalls the spontaneous energy of the session: “We had been joking about Alex becoming the sixth member of Ok Cowgirl. On our last day of recording, he surprised us by setting up a second drum kit in the live room and proposing that both he and our drummer Matt play on the song. It was such a fun moment. We absolutely adore working with Alex, and having him in the room playing alongside us made it feel electric.”
Following the success of their 2024 collection ‘Couldn’t Save Us From My Gut’ and a high-profile Netflix sync, Ok Cowgirl is firmly cementing their status as essential indie-pop storytellers. This new single is a testament to their growth, balancing sugary hooks with the biting honesty of self-reflection.
‘It Wasn’t You, It Was The Feeling’ is available to stream now on all major platforms. You can keep up with the band’s latest movements by following them on Instagram and Facebook.
