West Australian indie heavyweights Spacey Jane are keeping their foot firmly on the gas. Fresh off the back of their highly praised third studio album ‘If That Makes Sense’, the Fremantle four-piece have revealed that a brand-new EP titled ‘Exit Wounds’ is dropping on 12 June. To celebrate the news, the band have given fans a taste of what is to come with the release of their melancholic yet infectious new single, ‘I Never See Her’.
The fresh material marks a continuation of a massive period for the band. Lyrically, the new track dives deep into the emotional fallout of a fracturing relationship. Frontman Caleb Harper explains:
“‘I Never See Her’ is about rationalising a breakup. It's a conversation you have with yourself when you're delaying the inevitable and anticipating the grief. It's also about longing for a place that will hold you and keep you safe - trying to define what home means and where it is.”
Carrying on the creative synergy from their recent record, ‘Exit Wounds’ was cooked up in Los Angeles during the original recording sessions for ‘If That Makes Sense’. The EP features production by indie-pop maestro Day Wave and was mixed by Lars Stalfors. It follows on from their previous teaser, ‘Do You Really Love Her’, which recently went viral on streaming charts across both the US and Australia.
But the good news does not stop there for local fans. Before embarking on a stacked international run of festival slots at the likes of Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Governors Ball, Spacey Jane will be returning home for their massive 'Heading Back Down Under' tour later this year.
The nationwide summer circuit kicks off with a double-header at Brisbane’s Riverstage on 26 and 27 November, before rolling through Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Adelaide's The Drive, and a spectacular outdoor stint on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. The indie icons will wrap up the epic tour with a massive two-night homecoming celebration at Perth’s ICF OUTDOOR on 12 and 13 December.
