Modules Signal a Fearless New Chapter with 'We Won’t Break'

Puerto Rico’s heavy music scene gets a bold shot of adrenaline with Modules’ latest offering. Established back in 2015, the five-piece metalcore outfit—comprising vocalist Kelvin Rodriguez, rhythm guitarist Omar Garcia, lead guitarist Alberic Nieves, bassist Hilton Cummings, and drummer Nicholas Cruz Narváez—have spent years honing a balance between tectonic djent rhythms and soaring melody.

Taking their moniker from the idea of independent components linking together to form a complex architecture, Modules operate as a true sum of their parts. Their sonic blueprint is drawn from modern metal luminaries like Northlane, Erra, Volumes, and Killswitch Engage, with the group channelling diverse musical backgrounds into an emotionally charged, cohesive sound.

Their overarching mission remains clear: using personal reflections on growth and perseverance to connect deeply with listeners worldwide. Following up on their impressive 2018 debut EP, ‘Fractions’, and 2022’s ‘Detached’, the band’s newest single, ‘We Won’t Break’, signals an exciting evolution in their songwriting.

Rather than barging through the front door with an immediate wall of noise, the track takes a surprisingly patient approach. Soft, neo-classical string arrangements and serene ambient textures gently unfurl, slowly giving way to delicate electric guitar lines.

That calm doesn't last forever, though. Around eighty seconds in, the composition erupts into an absolute tempest of fierce vocals, punishing percussion, and dense, sludge-laden guitar work. It is a piece built on stark contrasts—uncompromisingly heavy, sludgy verses give way to emotionally resonant, expansive choruses, while a tranquil, contemplative bridge provides a breather before a final, crushing climax.

Lyrically, Rodriguez artfully explores themes of inner strength and perspective, crafting a track that feels equal parts cathartic and uplifting. It is an impressive showcase of dynamic and progressive metalcore, proving that Modules are well on their way to sharing stages with the very artists who inspired them.
