Sydney four-piece The Buoys are officially stepping into their next era. Two years on from their critically lauded debut 'Lustre', the indie-rock outfit have announced their sophomore record, 'Concrete Cowboy, landing on Friday 23 October via Sony Music Australia. To mark the moment, the band have dropped its punchy lead single 'Welcome To My Brain', alongside details for a celebratory headline tour across the country.
Where 'Lustre' saw the group testing new stylistic waters, 'Concrete Cowboy' sharpens their core identity into a refined blend of melodic hooks and fiery guitar energy. Working alongside producer Chris Collins, the tracklist draws from an intriguing mix of musical and cultural touchstones—spanning the funk rhythm of Nile Rodgers and the alt-pop polish of HAIM to 1980s film classics and ancient Roman verse.
At the centre of the record is a relatable struggle with modern cognitive overload. Explaining the inspiration behind the project, the band shared:
“We were in the studio together when the phrase came to us: too many tabs open. That became the heartbeat of the record. Concrete Cowboy is about trying to keep pace with a world that never slows down, and what you find when you finally stop. Dreams, repressed memories, the blur between what’s real and what your mind has been quietly holding. We wanted to build a world around that feeling, one that lives in a surrealist dream state where those lines don’t just blur, they dissolve. We hope listeners find themeselves inside it, so they can have a dance when it all feels a little too much.”
The five-date October run kicks off on release night at Sydney's Crowbar, travelling to Brisbane, Adelaide, and Melbourne before wrapping up in Perth. From there, the band will cap off the year supporting Foo Fighters in Newcastle this November.
