Liverpool alt-rockers Crawlers are back with 'COOL', a swaggering, bass-driven anthem that strips back the glamour of performative composure. The track serves as the latest glimpse into their upcoming EP, 'TURN OFF THE TV', arriving on August 14th. Beneath its confident groove, the song explores the crushing weight of keeping up appearances while navigating addiction, validation, and personal crisis in an increasingly chaotic world.
Frontwoman Holly Minto lays out the tension driving the track: 'COOL' is all about the pressure to constantly keep up appearances and pretend everything’s fine, even when you’re falling apart inside. Peers’ encouragement when you’re indulging in self-harming behaviour, then being stuck in this performance of having it all together, using distractions like alcohol and trying to stay “cool” to cope with the weight of it all. But it’s exhausting and unsustainable.
The single captures the inner friction of using emotional deflection as a survival tactic. "It's about being self-aware enough to know that the obsession with being “cool” is a way to survive, but it’s also a facade," Holly explains. "There's a constant battle between wanting to be real and honest versus staying fake to protect yourself. But the pressure is building, and they can’t keep up the act forever. There's also a strong awareness of the world’s problems—the climate, politics, everything is burning up—and asking, "How can I keep playing it cool when everything’s falling apart?""
Having navigated label changes, rapid viral growth following early hit "Come Over (Again)", and the release of their 2024 debut 'The Mess We Seem To Make', the trio—Holly, Liv, and Amy—have re-anchored themselves in their roots. From early practices in a Warrington shed to massive global stages, their audience remains their driving force. “We don’t just want to be a band, we want to be a community,” says Holly. Bassist Liv agrees, adding, “The fans have always been the centre of everything we do,” surrounded by fan art lining their rehearsal space.
Alongside the track, Crawlers have announced key live dates, opening for Pale Waves at Salford’s Un.Titled Studio on September 11, following a fast-selling one-off London headline show at Village Underground.
