Nearly thirty years into their career, Interpol are experiencing a phenomenal second wind. The Manhattan post-punk outfit have officially returned with their eighth studio album, 'This Mirror Weighs a Ton', marking their first release in four years and their debut on Partisan Records.
Recorded on home turf at producer Andrew Wyatt’s Arcos studio on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the album finds the band stepping into uncharted territory without sacrificing the icy tension or rhythmic grit that made them famous. Mix engineer David Fridmann adds extra depth to a palette that now embraces synthesisers, woodwinds, lush strings, and acoustic guitars. Longtime touring bassist Brad Truax also makes his record-writing debut, bringing a refreshed energy to the rhythm section.
To coincide with the LP drop, Interpol have unveiled a lyric video for 'Wings On Fire'. Resting on pulsing basswork and intricate guitar interplay, the track highlights Paul Banks’ evocative lyricism: “Wings on fire is the reason why,” he sings over the driving beat, anchoring the hypnotic refrain, “I’m gonna find out who you are.”
Following a mammoth show to 200,000 fans at Mexico City’s Zócalo and a standout tour across Australia alongside Deftones, Interpol’s momentum is higher than ever.
