Melbourne’s premier roots revivalists, Rhiz & The Sugarplums, return with their highly anticipated sophomore record, 'All Over Again'. Dropping officially on 11th September, we are delighted to offer an exclusive early stream of the full project right here today.
Channelling the golden era of mid-century Nashville and classic country, All Over Again filters vintage twang through an authentically homegrown Australian lens. Frontwoman Rhiz (Rhiannon McArthur) grounds every track in sharp character studies and unvarnished narrative songwriting. Her craft draws heavily on her work away from the stage as a public hospital midwife. Guiding women through profound life-changing events daily equips McArthur with a rare empathy, giving her music a grounded emotional weight.
That emotional resonance strikes even closer to home following the death of McArthur's mother in 2025. Rather than crafting a record weighed down by dark grief, McArthur channelled her heartbreak into celebrating her mother's vibrant spirit. The resulting album wears its classic influences proudly—nodding to legends like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, Skeeter Davis, and The Everly Brothers—while maintaining a distinct personal identity.
The production matches the songwriting's prestige. Recorded at Tree House Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, by Tim Carter, the sessions brought in top-tier studio players to shape the band's rich sound. McArthur took the wheel as producer, with final mastering handled by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Having earned a stellar reputation across Australia's festival circuit—with memorable appearances at Woodford Folk Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Maldon Folk Festival, Newstead Live, and CresFest—the band is set to take these new tracks on the road. A massive 21-date national tour follows the launch, bringing their celebrated live show to stages across the country. The tour kicks off with the band's album launch this Saturday 12th September at the Brunswick Ballroom. Tickets and further details for the tour can be found on their website.
Stream 'All Over Again' exclusively below ahead of its official release tomorrow, and be sure to follow Rhiz & The Sugarplums across Bandcamp, Instagram, and Facebook to catch them live on their upcoming Australian tour.
