The meteoric rise of Girl Tones shows no signs of slowing down. After being hailed as one of NME’s 100 Essential Emerging Artists for 2026 and securing a spot as an Amazon Music Artist to Watch, the American punk duo have returned to the fray. Their latest offering, ‘Stubborn Mouth’, is out now via Big Loud Rock, further cementing their reputation as one of the most volatile and exciting acts in the modern rock landscape.
Produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant and released through his Parallel Vision imprint, the track is a masterclass in fuzzy, grunge-inspired grit. Where their previous work hinted at a penchant for chaos, ‘Stubborn Mouth’ fully embraces it. The single explores the claustrophobic reality of a relationship stuck in a loop of self-sabotage and friction. Speaking on the track’s inspiration, the band shared:
“This song is a vulnerable reflection on being headstrong and how it can ultimately deteriorate your own well-being and those around you.”
Sisters Kenzie and Laila bring a unique musical pedigree to their raw sound. Both are classically trained, but they famously traded the cello and piano for the guitar and drums to "electrify sentient beings from this galaxy to the next." That mission is evident in the new music video, directed by Austin Dickerson, which sees the pair performing within the kitschy, wood-panelled walls of a retro home.
While Rolling Stone once noted that "While the White Stripes — their most obvious comparison — were about controlled energy, Girl Tones are proudly imperfect," that imperfection is exactly what makes them unmissable. Having already shared stages with the likes of The Velveteers and Silversun Pickups, the duo are gearing up for a massive summer.
Following recent stints with Peter McPoland and Dexter and The Moonrocks, they are set to support indie outfit The Rare Occasions on tour. Fans can also catch them on the festival circuit at The Great Escape in the UK, alongside US appearances at Bonnaroo and Just Like Heaven, where they’ll share the bill with heavyweights like The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem.
