The evolution of a band is rarely a straight line, but for Sydney’s favourite sons, DMA’S, the path forward often involves a meaningful glance in the rearview mirror. After a decade of transforming from Newtown bedroom-pop upstarts into international arena mainstays, the trio have officially ushered in their next chapter with the release of their latest single, ‘My Baby’s Place’.
Accompanied by a music video that captures the hazy, universal ache of youthful yearning, the track arrives as a poignant blend of the old and the new. It carries that signature DNA—soaring melodies and a sense of vulnerability—that feels like catching up with an old friend you haven’t seen in years. Released through a global partnership with Wonderlick Entertainment, Sony Music Australia, and RCA UK, the song signals a band returning to their roots while maintaining the polish of their more recent electronic explorations.
The creative process for the track was a slow burn, bridging the gap between the band’s scrappy beginnings and their current maturity. Matt Mason reflects on the long journey of the song’s construction: “‘My Baby’s Place’ began with the verses, written around a back and forth between gratitude and destitution. I finished the choruses last year, at a time when a few chapters were closing and it all clicked, so it felt right to record it ourselves in our studio in Glebe, Sydney.”
This DIY approach is a vital element of the new era. By self-producing the material, the band has reclaimed the raw, intimate energy that first defined them. It is an especially fitting shift given that 2026 marks ten years since the world first heard Hills End, the seismic debut album that launched them onto global stages from Glastonbury to Coachella.
To celebrate a decade of that landmark record, DMA’S are heading home. Next Friday, March 27, they will take over Sydney’s Metro Theatre for a one-off, sold-out anniversary show. The night promises to be a deep dive into the songs that started it all, providing a bridge between the anthems of 2016 and the fresh sounds of ‘My Baby’s Place’.
‘My Baby’s Place’ is available to stream on all major platforms now. You can stay updated with the band's latest news and tour dates by following them on Instagram, Facebook, and X.
