The meteoric rise of Budjerah has been one of the most compelling narratives in contemporary Australian music. From his early days as a 19-year-old sensation to becoming a multi-platinum, 2x ARIA Award winner, the Coodjinburra artist has consistently moved with a grace that belies his years. Now, after a meticulous creative journey, he has officially announced that his long-awaited debut album, 'Gentleman', will arrive on Friday 24 July via Warner Music Australia.
The record, helmed by the esteemed producer Om’Mas Keith, serves as a sonic manifesto. It bridges the gap between the R&B and pop foundations of his youth and the sophisticated, genre-blurring artist he has become. Reflecting on the four-year odyssey that led to this moment, Budjerah explains the personal significance of the project:
“'Gentleman' is my debut album and It’s inspired by who I wanted to be when I was growing up. This album was almost a 4 year process for me. Between my life at home and life on the road, I experienced so much change and growth. Chasing my dreams I faced new challenges which helped me understand who I wanted to be. Every song on this album holds a piece of me. I hope little Budjerah is proud.”
To celebrate the news, Budjerah has unveiled the title track, a suave follow-up to the recent hit 'Want You Back'. 'Gentleman' is a masterstroke of nostalgic R&B, built around a hook that feels instantly familiar yet strikingly fresh. Lyrically, the song is a tribute to the values instilled in him by his elders.
“You have to be a gentleman and make sure your girl is treated right. I grew up around a lot of old people, so I was influenced by the music they played as well as watching how they treated each other, and that is what this song is about,” says Budjerah.
With over 60 million career streams and a trophy cabinet featuring 15 ARIA nominations, Budjerah’s transition from "Breakthrough Artist" to a household mainstay is nearly complete. His recent history is a highlight reel of Australian music culture: from opening for Ed Sheeran on a sold-out stadium run to sharing the stage with Kylie Minogue. Whether he is providing the theme for Baz Luhrmann's 'Faraway Downs' or commanding the stage at Tropfest, his trajectory remains vertical.
'Gentleman' is available for pre-order now. You can stream the title track on all major platforms today, and be sure to follow Budjerah on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X for a behind-the-scenes look at the road to July 24.
