Cage The Elephant Unleash Swirling New Single ‘Dying In Reverse’

Cage The Elephant are back with ‘Dying In Reverse’, a kaleidoscopic hit of untethered indie rock that arrives alongside a visualiser directed by frontman Matthew Shultz. Premiered on Zane Lowe, the single offers a candid reflection on self-destruction and healing. Shultz exchanges the fear of a free fall for complete liberation, trading a broken parachute for a bold embrace of whatever lies ahead. Gamers can also look out for the track on the EA SPORTS FC™ 27 soundtrack launching 25th September.

Unpacking the core meaning of the track, Shultz shares: “‘Dying In Reverse’ is essentially about a fresh start or a rebirth of sorts. More in terms of death to ego, renewing the mind and heart. The journey of turning your perspective away from self in order to see more clearly through the lens of love and connect to deeper purpose.”

Following July’s release ‘Beaches In Tennessee’—which Shultz penned in a mental health facility while receiving treatment for medication-induced psychosis—this latest cut frames recovery and psychological repair through a surreal, hopeful lens.

Since forming in 2006, the Nashville-based sextet have solidified their place amongst alternative rock royalty, picking up GRAMMY® wins for Tell Me I’m Pretty and Social Cues alongside six billion streams. After spending last year supporting Oasis across North American stadiums on their Live ‘25 tour, the band hit the studio with producers Justin Raisen and SADPONY (Jeremiah Raisen), known for their work with Charli xcx and SZA.

That collaborative shift has sparked a major artistic evolution. “Musically, we always want to reinvent Cage The Elephant,” says guitarist Brad Shultz. “We’ve discovered a whole new side to our band, how we look at things, and how we make art. You’re growing constantly as an artist, and I think we’ve tapped into that growth. I do feel like we’re making the best music we’ve ever made. If anything, it’s definitely the most inspired.”

‘Dying In Reverse’ is out now across all major streaming platforms. Make sure to plug in your headphones, stream the new single today, and give the band a follow on Facebook and Instagram for their next updates.
