Hailing from the sun-drenched heart of Viareggio, Tuscany, The Death Wishlist exploded onto the scene in early 2023, bringing a much-needed jolt of raw rock’n’roll energy. Built on the talents of Cosimo Crott, Jacopo Giannetti, Leonardo Tomei, and Gianfilippo Mei, the band quickly forged a distinctive sound.
With the recent addition of Emiliano Marianelli on guitar, their sonic arsenal has grown, drawing from the gritty legacies of Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters, and Buzzcocks to create a spiked rock sound. Armed with a maelstrom of sounds that weaves together abrasive riffs, high-octane vigour, and incisive lyrics, Death Wishlist have cultivated an unvarnished rock’n’roll punch that never fails to excite.
Their new single, ‘Indian Summer’, is a perfect example of this caustic and impactful sound. What began in the rehearsal room, surrounded by warm beers, scorching amps, and a request to include a summer cover for ‘Music for Hotels Vol. 2’ has blossomed into beast of its own. A cover visceral reimagining of T.N.T.’s original, the new single is a ferocious blast of street punk, charged with rage and a melancholic edge.
Recorded in their rehearsal room with minimal gear, ‘Indian Summer’ is an unadulterated anthem that pulls no punches. The raw production, infused with searing guitars and crashing percussion bursts, the track creates a powerful statement, laying down an unrelenting foundation that Crott’s vocals fight through.
As with any good cover, ‘Indian Summer’ feels less like a copy and more like an original, with The Death Wishlist taking that fundamental sound and injecting it with their signature tempo, anger, and authenticity. Just as the band shared, “We wanted to rip it out of the ’80s and throw it into the dirt of the present.”
In true form, ‘Indian Summer’ showcases what The Death Wishlist stands for: unvarnished, handcrafted rock that refuses to conform. It’s got drive, grit, and depth – a potent combination in an era of often-calculated radio offerings.
