One-Man Pop-Punk Machine Returns with Emotional Evolution

Multi-instrumentalist Brock Glaisyer is back with his latest independent project under the moniker The Boredom Corporation. Hailing from Boise, Idaho, Brock has spent years building a reputation as a literal one-man band, meticulously handling every instrument, lyric, and production note from his own bedroom studio. His latest 12-song collection, ‘Someone I Might Like’, marks a significant departure from his earlier work, expanding his sonic palette well beyond standard power chords.

The album opens with a surprising pop-rock reimagining of the classic track ‘A Thousand Miles’, immediately establishing a bigger, more expansive sound. While the foundations of the record remain rooted in the energetic simplicity of Green Day and the vulnerability of Jimmy Eat World, Brock incorporates distinct indie and alternative textures. This stylistic shift mirrors the thematic content of the album, which explores the messy transitions, quiet transformations, and emotional turbulence of navigating your twenties.

Thematically, the record trades youthful angst for mature introspection, zeroing in on the shifting dynamics of adulthood. The bittersweet lead single, ‘Pennsylvania’, tackles the sobering reality of growing apart from close friends and navigating physical distance. Meanwhile, the infectious second single, ‘Hey, I Get It’, leans into big guitars and a brilliantly addictive hook. The self-deprecating chorus lines perfectly capture the confusion of modern romance and the struggle to understand your own desires.

Because the project was written and self-produced over several years, a few moments feel slightly unpolished, but this DIY approach ultimately works in its favour, prioritising raw authenticity over studio sheen.

Reflecting on the long gap since his 2021 release, Brock shares, "I haven't released any music in over five years, so this is a reflection of a lot of growth and a lot of change that has happened in that time. ‘Someone I Might Like’ is by far the best and my favourite work that I've done to date." It is a genuinely cohesive, relatable return that highlights an artist growing comfortably into his own skin.
