Released via the Ikarus_Falls imprint, ‘Reduced to Poetry’ sees the boundary-pushing duo refine their self-described "prog-hop" identity across four intricately structured, guitar-driven chapters. This new material successfully balances the duo’s love for dense alternative instrumentation with deeply reflective, cerebral lyricism.
The record plays out like a singular, continuous meditation on cosmic isolation. Opener ‘A Meaningless Pantomime’ immediately establishes a theatrical, moody environment, interweaving complex fretwork with sharp, syncopated hip-hop rhythms. The sonic density deepens on ‘Between Everywhere and Forever’, which scales back the frantic energy to let Castiello’s heavy lyrical prose take centre stage, conjuring images of navigating through a thick emotional fog.
The EP reaches its heaviest psychological weight during ‘An Unreasonable Silence’. As the project’s dark, explicit anchor, the track leans heavily into themes of communication breakdown, utilising bleak, stark textures that perfectly mirror the void implied by its title. Reflecting on the collection, the duo explained, "After an extensive break, we have returned to our creativity with a fresh process, focus and direction. 'Reduced to Poetry' is a philosophical piece. A search for meaning in a seemingly indifferent universe. An exploration of what power we may have over the definitions of our own purpose."
Compared to their earlier release, ‘For Now, Between Two Tigers’, which occasionally faltered when matching vocal pitch to ambitious melodies, this record is much more balanced. The vocals lock tightly into the instrumentation, keeping their experimental leanings accessible and grounded.
