Two-time Grammy-nominated songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Eric Alexandrakis has dropped two distinct new singles that bridge raw emotional tribute with cutting-edge visual art. Heading the drop is ‘One More Angel’, a deeply poignant piece of alternative Americana written by Alan Miller alongside the late Raul Malo. Originally featured on Malo’s 2009 solo record ‘Lucky One’, the track tackles mortality head-on.
Following Malo's passing in December 2025 at age 60 after an 18-month battle with cancer, the recording carries profound weight. For Alexandrakis, the connection runs three decades deep, tracing back to his early Miami days alongside Malo and The Mavericks. Combined with Alexandrakis’ own two personal triumphs over cancer, the track achieves genuine emotional resonance.
Arrangement-wise, ‘One More Angel’ deftly expands beyond standard roots tropes. Accordion touches give the piece an authentic, lively character, whilst electronic drums and subtle digital flourishes lend a modern pulse without overpowering the acoustic core. A stellar list of contributors joins Alexandrakis: EJ Ouellette supplies violin, viola, mandolin, and slide electric guitar, while former Mavericks accordionist Michael Guerra adds a direct line to the source material. With University of Miami alum Leo Nobre on bass, teenage sensation Tanner Hughes on drums, plus Pennan Brae, Theresa Bentley, and mixer Paul David Hager, the production stays spacious, letting the vocal performance breathe.
Available for a limited time on Apple Music, a 500-unit vinyl EP featuring Renaissance art inserts will follow via Elastic Stage, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.
In stark contrast, Alexandrakis’ second release, ‘Life Is Better Live’, serves as the score for director Sandro Miller’s short film ‘FUCK THEATRE’. Created for the 50th anniversary of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre, the project features luminary actors including John Malkovich and Gary Sinise reacting directly to the audio. Taking cues from Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, Alexandrakis fuses classical instruments with experimental sound design to mirror the venue's radical spirit.
