In a move that’s as unconventional as it is captivating, Polish-born musician and former Chicago radio presenter Victor Sorrow has unveiled his latest release, ‘Desert of My Life’. A concept album that rewrites all the rules, it sees Victor opting for a format that feels both intimate and expansive, drawing on his previous role to create a unique podcast performance.
Unfolding over 33 minutes, the entire album is a broadcast from the ghost station K-Hole 66.6 FM, a ghostly place transmitting from the dusty outskirts of the fictional town of El Camino, Texas. To create this immersive world, Victor has enlisted the talents of American radio presenter Amber Banda, who steps into the role of the charismatic host Hermione Ranger, and guitarist Peter Kubiak. Together the trio creates an authentic, in-the-moment vibe that blurs the line between a scripted performance and a genuine, late-night radio show.
As the fictional broadcast unfolds, Victor performs stripped-down acoustic versions of his songs, weaving them together with deeply personal and often surreal anecdotes. The stories touch on everything from faith and hope to survival and even unconventional ketamine therapy, creating a unique and compelling narrative arc. The atmosphere is further enhanced by mock commercials and the station’s haunting slogan, “K-Hole FM: Do We Exist?” It’s a psychedelic motto that perfectly encapsulates the album's blend of humour, darkness, and existential reflection. It’s an album that asks you to fully immerse yourself in its world.
As a musician, Victor is also a member of BITT, an international collective of artists from across the globe, including Brazil and the UK. But it's his background as a radio host that truly shapes this project. Chicago residents may recall his rock program on WPNA 103.1 FM. This experience coloured his latest project, creating a new process and experience.
As he explained, “When you know the stories behind the songs, the music sounds different. In today’s restless times, few people find a moment to truly listen to art. That’s why I recorded this album in the form of a podcast — perfect for the road, yet infused with the spirit of real American radio. Close your eyes, put on headphones, and let yourself be transported to Texas. This is not just an album — it’s an experience.”
From the hypnotic opener ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to fan-favourite ‘Semicolon Tattoos’, the acoustic tracks are interspersed with conversation and confession, turning a simple tracklist into a proper musical journey. ‘Desert of My Life’ is an invitation to a late-night session of music and storytelling, broadcast from the heart of a Texas desert.
