Lucky Steps into the Spotlight with Sincere Debut EP 'Biting Heels'

The ascent of Melbourne-via-Staghorn Flat artist Lucky has been nothing short of a whirlwind. Over the last twelve months, she has transitioned from a promising newcomer to an essential voice in the indie scene, earning a spot on the prestigious Global NME100 list and securing three separate viral moments on Shazam. This month marks the pinnacle of that journey with the arrival of her highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Biting Heels’.

The nine-track collection is a masterclass in intimate, guitar-led storytelling. While it features familiar favourites like ‘Lady Beetle’, ‘Adored’, and ‘Clover’, the record’s emotional anchor is the brand-new highlight ‘Perfect Pain’. The track is quietly devastating, blending hazy textures with an unmistakable sincerity that has become Lucky’s sonic calling card.

Reflecting on the milestone, Lucky shares: "Although ‘Biting Heels’ is my debut, it feels like a long time coming. Finally putting out a body of work that I’ve poured everything into, something that feels truly meaningful, it marks an important moment for me. An official introduction to the world. To me the project feels quite broad, dipping into my different sonic inspirations and directions. I tried to tip my hat to all of them whilst still leaving room for whatever I do next."

The title track itself holds a special significance for the artist, acting as the catalyst for the EP's broader themes.

"‘Biting Heels’, the title track, and subsequent EP title kind of came out of nowhere. Working on the song reminded me of when I first started writing music, with an acoustic guitar at the core. It quickly became the heart of the EP, centring much of the lyrical content across the record. Exploring comfort zones, the act of pushing beyond them, and trusting that you’ll land somewhere new and exciting."

Lucky’s rise has been backed by serious industry momentum, from winning the triple j Unearthed slot at Beyond The Valley to performing at SXSW in Austin and supporting 90s legends Garbage. After a standout showing at BIGSOUND—which saw her sign with Community Music and Select Music—all eyes have been on her for 2026.

Fans won't have to wait long to see these songs live. Currently on the road with MAY-A, Lucky will embark on her own headline tour this June, stopping in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide.
