Johnny Lloyd is stepping back into the spotlight with a fresh creative identity, unveiling his latest project, Band of Revelations. The announcement comes alongside the release of the debut single, ‘All the Way Home’, which premiered exclusively via Rolling Stone UK. Known as the frontman of the indie-rock mainstays Tribes, Lloyd is trading the high-octane garage rock of his past for a sound that feels more weathered, soulful, and profoundly intimate.
“All roads have led to Band of Revelations,” Lloyd explains, signalling a natural culmination of his journey through the music industry. After years of touring with Tribes and carving out a prolific career as a solo artist and award-winning film composer (Sex Education, After Life), this new venture represents a return to his core instincts.
The debut track, ‘All the Way Home’, was recorded at London’s HOXA HQ with producer Luke Glazewski. Eschewing the polish of modern pop, the song leans into a classic, stripped-back aesthetic. It features Motown-inspired piano arrangements and hazy, "woozy" guitar lines that create a paradoxically light atmosphere for its heavy subject matter: the end of a long-term relationship.
Reflecting on the track’s deeper meaning, Lloyd shares: “It’s a song about losing love and the journey back to yourself after experiencing grief. I wrote the song to feel like a new beginning rather than an ending. In writing about grief I realised it was something that bonds us all as people. We all lose the people we love at some point and maybe that’s some common ground in such a divided world.”
Drawing influence from titans like Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and The Band, Lloyd has crafted a project that feels timeless rather than trendy. By prioritising creative honesty over industry expectations, he has found a sound that is both raw and healing.
“I wasn’t listening to the zeitgeist,” Lloyd explains. “I just made music I would listen to in my car.”
