Enter London-born, French-raised alt-pop songwriter FLEUR ROUGE, who returns with her sharp new single 'Small Talk'—the driving force behind her upcoming five-track EP.
Having already amassed over 500,000 Spotify streams independently, alongside tastemaker praise from CLASH, Notion, and BBC Radio 1's Nels Hylton, Fleur is stepping boldly into a grungier sonic landscape. Co-written and crafted alongside producers Dustin Dooley and Nathan Challinor, the new material trades pristine polish for jagged guitar riffs and weightier drums. 'Small Talk' tackles the endless, dead-end dialogue of modern romance, setting relatable frustration against infectious pop hooks. Rather than leaning into melancholy, the track relies on self-aware humour to dismantle the exhausting nature of modern relationships.
Talking about her creative approach, Fleur explains: "I never want my music to feel overly serious or preachy, but I do want my lyrics to have something to say. Whether it's about modern dating, relationships, or just the awkward realities of being in your twenties, I want people to laugh, relate, and maybe see themselves in the songs too."
That refusal to gloss over life's messier moments gives the single its resonance. Discussing the intent behind the track, she adds: "Dating, heartbreak, and feeling disconnected can be really isolating, so if someone listens to Small Talk and thinks, 'It's not just me,' then I've done what I wanted to do."
