Following a well-earned break to lock themselves away and write the follow-up to their 2023 album 'Dawn Chorus', Blank Atlas have made their roaring return with a brand-new track, ‘No Good’.
The fresh cut sees the alternative rock trio—comprising twin brothers Dan and Tom Thould alongside bassist Chris Simpson—channelling an upbeat, angst-fuelled energy. Wall-to-wall with crushing guitar riffs, three-part vocal harmonies, and irresistible hooks, the track marks a noticeable nod to the raw, hard-hitting charm of their earlier releases. Beneath the explosive noise lies an intimately relatable core, with the song detailing the quiet panic of letting down those closest to you and the desperate drive to do better.
Inspiration, however, arrived from an unlikely place. Drummer and vocalist Tom Thould revealed: “The song was actually inspired after watching an episode of Love Island. A lot of the people on the show will always say someone’s 'No Good' when they’ve been done dirty. I thought that’d be a fun little lyric to work into a song. The song came pretty quickly after that, so we’ve got Love Island to thank for that one! I also really like the chords we used for this one which was inspired by bands like Lower Than Atlantis (RIP). I also recorded the drums for this with a sprained ankle, so that was fun!”
Fans who caught the band live earlier in the summer might have already had a sneaky preview. Guitarist and vocalist Dan Thould shared: “We’ve been so excited to finally release this one. We sneakily played it for the first time at our acoustic set at 2000 Trees Festival this year and it went down really well! It’s no secret that we have an affinity with Trees so getting to play it to all the lovely people there was such a treat and just made us even more excited to finally release it”
