Transforming personal pain into raw, expressive art is no small feat, yet 22-year-old New York artist Binyomin Rosenblum does precisely that on his moving instrumental track, ‘Heavy Heart’. Having spent his teenage years navigating mental health struggles, religious uncertainty, and the complexities of growing up with special needs, Binyomin turned to music as a sanctuary. While lockdowns saw many picking up temporary hobbies, he took a different route—teaching himself piano, vocals, and production from his bedroom studio.
That self-taught grit fuels ‘Heavy Heart’, a cinematic piece that explores a pivotal moment of dark internal conflict. Rather than relying on lyrics, the track relies on an intense sonic dialogue between instruments to convey its narrative. As Binyomin explains, “The song is about me a couple [of] years ago in a very bad place when I wanted to end it, but I knew I was on this planet for a reason, so I fought my feelings and here I am today.”
Musically, the composition builds with delicate patience, weaving fragile piano melodies and ambient strings before escalating into its emotional centrepiece. Drawing on subtle musical nuances and evocistive tones, the arrangement offers a breath of fresh air in an era often dominated by hyper-polished pop.
Working closely with his producer to refine the final mix, Binyomin has crafted an authentic piece that resonates with genuine heart. It’s a masterclass in music reflecting heart, as Binyomin shared, “The saxophone and guitar in the song is the main part the guitar is telling you to end it while the saxophone is telling you to live it's a fight between them the song ends with the piano and the saxophone gorgeously and gently telling you it's fine your here now and good”.
