Torizon Showcase New Emotional Depths with 'Currents'

Brisbane's own Torizon are making waves with their latest single, 'Currents', a powerful and deeply moving track that offers a glimpse into their forthcoming debut conceptual EP, 'Meliora', set to drop on Friday, September 19th. This petalcore outfit, known for their dynamic sound, has crafted a song that resonates with profound emotional honesty.

'Currents' stands as the third chapter in the poignant narrative of Luna and Sam, as they grapple with the aftermath of a miscarriage. The band fearlessly delves into themes of grief and resilience, weaving a tapestry of sound that mirrors the emotional journey. Opening with delicate vocals floating over intricate finger-picked guitar, the track soon swells into a sonic torrent, with jagged riffs, orchestral flourishes, and the compelling dual vocals of frontwoman Mish Sharma and bassist Ben Gallaher crashing in. These cinematic choruses are expertly balanced by moments of serene stillness, punctuated by the sounds of the ocean, strings, and clean guitar, before building to a sweeping bridge and an epic, cathartic finale. It's a testament to Torizon's skill that 'Currents' feels both like a release and a hopeful turning point, all wrapped in a sing-along anthem.

The band shed light on the inspiration behind 'Currents', explaining: "This track reflects the part where Luna is still in the undertow of grief, confronting trauma re-emergence after losing her baby. We used the ocean as a metaphor - those tidal pulls mirror trauma-formed neural pathways she has worked hard to rewire. The shoreline represents her healed self, the place she keeps returning to despite the challenges. 'Currents' will resonate with anyone who has dealt with PTSD and childhood trauma."

Accompanying the single is an eye-grabbing video by Emerge Creative, featuring intimate shots at Colmslie Reserve, Mish's home, and Bunker Creative Studio. Mish shares a personal touch: "You'll see Luna holding an ultrasound of the baby she lost and reflecting on childhood photos of her and Sam, which are the real photos of both actors from when they were kids." She also recounted a heartwarming anecdote from the set: "Just as we started shooting the beach scenes, two dogs on a walk came running towards us, so naturally we stopped to play fetch and pat the puppies every time they came by."

'Currents' was meticulously produced and mixed by Kalen Austin, with mastering handled by the acclaimed Mike Kalajian at Rogue Planet Studios (known for his work with Bad Omens and Papa Roach), ensuring a polished and impactful sound.

Torizon's live performances have captivated audiences, selling out hometown shows and sharing stages with notable acts like Circles and The Last Martyr. This October, fans can experience their high-impact show firsthand as they embark on their first-ever East Coast headline tour, joined by Melbourne's alt-metal outfit New Million, with tickets available now.
