Mac DeMarco Finds Divine Inspiration on New Single 'Holy'

Mac DeMarco is back with 'Holy', a brand new single and video that offers another glimpse into his highly anticipated album, 'Guitar', set to drop on August 22, 2025, via Mac’s Record Label. Following last month's "reflective indie pop ode," as described by Clash, 'Home', 'Holy' sees DeMarco delve into themes of spirituality with his signature laid-back, lilting style.

True to his DIY ethos, DeMarco also helmed the video for 'Holy'. He shared some insights into its creation, revealing, "I waded around in the ocean fully clothed for a couple hours and completely filled my boots with seawater. There were some other shots on some rocks I kept trying too, but in the end the clip of me falling in the garden and eating the apple was best. Thank you for listening." This glimpse behind the curtain perfectly encapsulates the charmingly unpolished aesthetic that fans have come to adore.

'Guitar' was a truly solitary endeavour for DeMarco, written and recorded entirely in November 2024 at his Los Angeles home. Aside from the mastering, handled by David Ives, DeMarco personally managed every aspect of the record, from mixing the album in Canada to even shooting the artwork on tripods. "I think Guitar is as close to a true representation of where I’m at in my life today as I can manage to put to paper," DeMarco commented. "I’m happy to share this music, and look forward to playing these songs as many places as I am able."

Fans eager to experience these new tracks live won't have long to wait. DeMarco's entirely sold-out 2025 tour kicks off in late August with three shows at The Greek Theatre. His November UK leg is completely sold out and includes a stop at London’s Eventim Apollo on November 10th, alongside dates in Birmingham and Manchester.

The 2026 leg promises even more global reach with newly announced dates in Asia and South America. Joining him on the road will be a rotating cast of artists exclusively from Mac’s Record Label, including Mock Media, Tex Crick, Daryl Johns, and Vicky Farewell. It’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting period for the beloved artist.
