Long Island’s most prolific brothers, Brian and Michael D’Addario, have pulled back the curtain on another slice of baroque-pop perfection. Under their moniker The Lemon Twigs, the duo has released ‘2 or 3’, a vibrant and rhythmically buoyant new single that serves as the latest taster for their upcoming sixth studio album, 'Look For Your Mind!', arriving 8th May via Captured Tracks / Civilians.
While the track shimmers with the kind of infectious, sun-drenched melodies the band is known for, the inspiration behind it was surprisingly literal. Brian D’Addario recalls the song’s origins following a performance in Argentina: “we played for the first time in Buenos Aires last year and I woke up the next morning having dreamt the chorus. It’s a rare thing for me and even rarer that I end up remembering the words. I had to interpret what “she’s lived 2 or 3 as many lives as me” meant. It made me think of a guy who wasn’t cultured or worldly enough for his girlfriend and had to pretend to be interested in fine art and history.”
Despite its jaunty exterior, the new record hints at a deeper, more anxious core. Brian notes that 'Look For Your Mind!' reflects a world increasingly on edge. “I do think that now is a time of insanity. You really have to hold onto your own mind if you don’t wanna lose it,” he admits.
This album also marks a significant shift in the Twigs’ recording philosophy. Traditionally, the D’Addario brothers have been studio hermits, playing almost every instrument themselves. However, this time they’ve invited their touring family—Reza Matin (drums), Danny Ayala (bass), and Eva Chambers (Tchotchke)—into the fold, injecting a live energy and newfound freedom into their meticulous arrangements.
Reflecting on their journey since 2023’s 'Everything Harmony' and 2024’s 'A Dream Is All We Know', Michael D’Addario, now 26, views this period as a creative homecoming. “It was the beginning of making records that we would listen to ourselves,” he says.
Following a successful Australian stint in late 2023, the band is now gearing up for a massive 2026 world tour across the UK, Ireland, and North America. British fans can catch them this May in cities like Nottingham, London, and Leeds.
