Sydney's own indie-punk powerhouse The Buoys have returned with their highly anticipated second album, 'Concrete Cowboy', out now via Sony Music Australia. Following the massive breakout success of their 2024 debut 'Lustre'—which hit #7 on the ARIA charts—the four-piece has spent the last year refining their gut-punching rock sound, exploring new ways to anchor themselves amidst the relentless pace of modern life.
Duality sits at the absolute core of the new record. The band expertly navigates life’s complexities and beauties, offering softer, introspective moments on tracks like ‘Alone In Vegas’ and ‘Tell Me It Gets Better’. These are perfectly balanced by the euphoric, cathartic guitars of ‘Waiting’ and the frantic escapism of ‘Stay Up To Date On Politics’. Produced by Chris Collins and featuring collaborative input from Alistair Hayes, Fletcher Matthews, Konstantin Kerstin, and Dylan Ollivierre, the album's vibrant sonic landscape pulls from a wide array of influences, including Adrianne Lenker, HAIM, The Beths, and The 1975.
Mental overload and the desire to log off directly inspired the project. Speaking on the release, the band share: “We were in the studio together when the phrase came to us: too many tabs open. That became the heartbeat of the record. Concrete Cowboy is about trying to keep pace with a world that never slows down, and what you find when you finally stop. Dreams, repressed memories, the blur between what’s real and what your mind has been quietly holding. We wanted to build a world around that feeling, one that lives in a surrealist dream state where those lines don’t just blur, they dissolve. We hope listeners find themselves inside it, so they can have a dance when it all feels a little too much.”
'Concrete Cowboy' is an open invitation to lose yourself and feel every emotion pumping through the speakers. You can catch the band bringing these surrealist anthems to life right now on their ongoing national album tour this October. They are also gearing up for a massive stadium support slot with Foo Fighters this November, followed by a highly anticipated run of UK and European dates in January 2027.
