Sydney rock heavyweights The Buoys have officially broken their 2026 silence, dropping a fiercely uncompromised piece of indie-punk titled ‘Kill You Back’. Arriving via Sony Music Australia, the track represents the four-piece at their most relentless, carrying the exact white-hot energy that makes their live sets entirely unmissable.
Penned alongside longtime friend of the band Alistair Hayes, the single serves as a thrillingly volatile continuation of the path they paved with 2025’s biting standalone release, ‘Bitch’. Instead of leaning into safe sonic formulas, the group steer straight into left-field territory on the new track.
The eccentric thematic direction of the piece stems directly from the band’s deepest musical inspirations. Lead vocalist and guitarist Zoe Catterall opened up about how the framework for the song came together:
“I’ve been sooo obsessed with Illuminati Hotties for years now, no one can write and produce chaotic sounds and ideas like Sarah Tudzin, what a legend. I came into the session with a plan to write about being murdered and haunting my murderer. The concept itself was a bit zany, so it felt necessary to ask ourselves in that moment; what would Sarah Tudzin do? If it sounds chaotic and weird, that’s cause it’s meant to be!”
The unbridled velocity of ‘Kill You Back’ arrives on the heels of a massive global run. The band spent the majority of the past year overseas touring their stellar 2024 debut record, 'Lustre'—a release that dominated local airwaves as a triple j Featured Album and crashed into the ARIA Top 10. Audiences across Europe, the Netherlands, Austria, and Germany’s iconic Reeperbahn Festival got a firsthand taste of their live power.
Things are only accelerating. The quartet have just been tapped to support rock royalty Foo Fighters at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium on November 12.
‘Kill You Back’ is available to stream right now across all major music networks. Turn the volume up, add it to your favourite alternative playlists, and make sure to follow The Buoys on Instagram and Facebook to catch their upcoming touring updates.
