Dutch post-punk outfit Real Farmer have cooked up something remarkably intense for their latest release. Swapping traditional studio setups for the grease-stained charm of Margate’s iconic Dalby Cafe—the very spot made viral in 2018 by Pete Doherty conquering its massive breakfast challenge—the Groningen/Rotterdam four-piece have dropped their first ever live EP, Live at 'The Dalby Cafe'.
Recorded in a single, uninterrupted take on 15 November 2025, the four-track session captures the band delivering a white-knuckle spectacle. There are no safety nets here; Albion Rooms’ resident recording engineer Jason Stafford captured and mixed the performance entirely without overdubs, preserving the raw grit of the room. Visually, legendary director Roger Sargent sets the scene by contrasting the band's full-throttle energy against the bizarrely ordinary backdrop of deep fryers and sizzling grill tops. It marks the debut installment of a fresh series of curated sessions from the Strap Originals label.
The EP bridges the band's past and present, featuring 'Once More' and 'The Pressure Of Others' alongside recent singles 'Missing Link' and 'Heart Out'. The latter two originally appeared on their brilliant second album, 'Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right', which landed on 1 May via Strap Originals. That record quickly picked up major support across the airwaves, earning heavy rotation on Radio X, Radio 1, and 6 Music from tastemakers like Craig Charles, Chris Hawkins, Steve Lamacq, and Huw Stephens, who even hosted frontman Jeroen Klootsema on the 6 Music Roundtable.
The music press was equally enthusiastic: Clash gave it an 8/10, praising it as "beguiling in its twists and turns," God Is In The TV (8/10) celebrated the "thrilling ride," and Louder Than War dubbed it an "exhilarating record that stretches previously unseen muscles."
This release also signals a fresh chapter for the lineup. Following a fantastic tenure across the band's first two full-lengths, guitarist Peter van der Ploeg has stepped down. Stepping up to fill those shoes is Jaap van der Velde (known for his work with The Homesick), joining Klootsema, bassist Marrit Meinema, and drummer Leon Harms.
Having just completed their relentless 'I Will Survive!' headline tour—which saw them play 12 UK shows in 12 days—the band's stacked CV already includes Primavera Sound, Pitchfork Paris, and support slots for Protomartyr. Up next, they are taking their frantic energy to much larger rooms, hitting the road across Europe later this year as special guests for post-punk pioneers The Sisters of Mercy.
