Real Farmer Go Full-Throttle with New Single ‘Heart Out’

Groningen’s most electrifying exports, Real Farmer, have returned with a jagged new offering that bridges the gap between 1960s beat music and the grit of early punk. Their latest single, ‘Heart Out’, arrived today, serving as a frantic preview of what’s to come from their sophomore record.

The track is a whirlwind of hollering vocals and unruly guitar work, evocative of the sweat-drenched, nocturnal energy of 1970s New York. Think the raw urgency of Richard Hell or the Dead Boys, but filtered through a modern, mainland European lens. To capture this spirit, the band enlisted legendary photographer Roger Sargent to film them performing at Margate’s famous Dalby Cafe, turning a humble greasy spoon into a makeshift punk stage.

Discussing the weight behind the track, the band shared, "Some days the urge to give up feels insurmountable. What does art matter in a world where the sick reign and act with impunity? Are we even worthy of love? We need to resist becoming bitter by what is happening out there. Love is the drive to do everything but also sets the intention that an act should have. Resistance needs love.”

This sense of defiance underpins their new album, 'Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right', set for release on 1 May via Peter Doherty’s Strap Originals. Recorded at Rotterdam’s Far Out Sound Studios with Niek Van Den Driesschen, the record follows their 2024 debut and last year’s 'RF II' EP. While previous singles like the Stereolab-leaning ‘Run By Animals’ showed their range, the band insists their core remains unchanged.

"Not all songs are punk songs, but everything is written in this spirit," the band explains. "There’s so much happening in the world, that if you’re even a little empathetic, you can’t help but feel overwhelmed and saddened [by it all]. Music remains such an important outlet as well as a meeting point for politics and worldviews. And with this album we hope listeners can also find a sense of empowerment and hope through our songs."

With a massive UK and EU tour scheduled for May and June—following a high-stakes support slot for Peter Doherty at Paris’s L’Olympia—Real Farmer are positioning themselves as a vital voice in the alternative scene.
