Moving across the Tasman Sea seems to have unlocked a new creative gear for alt-pop quartet PARK RD. The group has just unveiled their latest track, ‘Floodlights’, offering fans a fresh taste of their highly anticipated second studio album, 'Boyhood', which arrives on Friday, 13th of November.
‘Floodlights’ joins previous singles ‘English Boy’ and the Molly Millington-assisted ‘Fatal’ to shape the sonic landscape of the new 11-track record. Leaning into a lighter indie-pop aesthetic, the band drew inspiration from the likes of The 1975, Ryan Beatty, and Fontaines D.C. Reflecting on the new release, the band notes:
"'Floodlights' is a very special song on the album, we feel like the whole band can all relate to the lyrics somehow. It was one of the first tracks we finished on the album, and has always felt like one of our favourites. It’s about wanting the best for someone who’s no longer in your life. We recorded it with Jol Mulholland, who was actually the first producer we ever worked with, and is a legend who really gets our sound.”
Splitting the writing process between studios in Auckland and Sydney allowed Tom, Leo, TK, and Carlos to document their coming-of-age journey as it happened. Discussing the core themes of the record, PARK RD explains:
“This album has been written over a period of time, as we’ve been growing up and experiencing the world around us. It feels like an accumulation of our lives as friends and the relationships happening in the close circles around us. We have romance in there, we have songs about music, stories of good times as well as the bad times. It’s a snapshot of all the highs and lows of growing up, and we are so excited to share what Boyhood means to us with everyone.”
To celebrate the release, the four-piece is hitting the road for an Australian headline tour. Having previously supported heavyweights like Spacey Jane, Milky Chance, and San Cisco, their live set is well-honed. The run kicks off on album release day at Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge, hits Sydney's Waywards on Saturday, 14th of November, and concludes at Melbourne's Shotkickers on Friday, 20th of November.
You can stream ‘Floodlights’ right now on your preferred digital platform. Be sure to pre-save 'Boyhood' ahead of its release, and follow PARK RD on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to keep up with their latest tour announcements and backstage updates.
