Bess Atwell Joins the Nettwerk Roster and Shares 'The Act'

Packing up your life and moving across the globe is bound to radically shift your perspective. For British singer-songwriter Bess Atwell, stepping away from her familiar world became the catalyst for a striking new creative era. Now officially signing with Nettwerk Music Group in 2026, the acclaimed artist marks the milestone with a beautifully candid indie-folk offering titled 'The Act'.

Already earning heavy rotation and an official premiere on BBC 6Music—including a live session for Steve Lamacq—the track places Atwell’s sharp, observational lyricism front and centre. It wrestles with the emotional fallout of leaving home and the quiet liberation of starting from scratch. Discussing the inspiration behind the track, Atwell explains:

“This song was written when I had just moved to Quebec, where I lived for 9 months. It was a birds-eye view of the relationships I had chosen to leave behind, not just physically. It’s an empowering song for me that basically says “I didn’t want to have to do this alone but I absolutely can.”

This newfound lyrical independence feels like a natural progression for a musician who has spent the last five years carefully refining her craft. Her 2021 breakthrough 'Already, Always' caught the attention of critics with its gorgeous, restrained melodies, while her widely celebrated 2024 album 'Light Sleeper'—helmed by Aaron Dessner of The National—pushed her sound into more atmospheric territory. Yet, even with expansive production, her songs still feel like whispered secrets between close friends.

That rare ability to make a massive room feel entirely intimate has served her well on the road. Atwell has cut her teeth playing sprawling stages alongside Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, and The National, and most recently joined her new labelmates The Paper Kites for a massive UK run.

With Nettwerk now backing her corner, her quiet ascent shows no signs of slowing down. 'The Act' is available right now on all major digital platforms. Be sure to stream the new release and follow Bess Atwell on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X to keep up to date with her upcoming moves.
