Following the lingering heartbreak of her recent release ‘Clichés’, Jem Cassar-Daley has returned with a hauntingly beautiful new offering titled ‘Speak Now’. Known for her ability to peel back the layers of romantic complexity with surgical precision, the Brisbane-based singer-songwriter once again proves why she is one of the most vital voices in the Australian indie-pop scene.
Accompanied by a striking new music video, ‘Speak Now’ finds Cassar-Daley at her most vulnerable, exploring the heavy, often unspoken weight of relationship doubt. The track subverts the typical romanticism associated with its title, instead leaning into the anxiety of a life-altering choice made for the wrong reasons.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Jem explains: “’Speak Now’ was inspired by the classic wedding quote ‘speak now or forever hold your peace’; however, this perspective is about the internal battle of knowing you are potentially marrying the wrong person. During the writing session KYE, MSquared and I talked about the conundrum of staying with someone out of fear of letting them down and losing sight of yourself in the process.”
This emotional honesty has become a hallmark of Cassar-Daley’s career. Since her 2021 debut, the Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung artist has collected a staggering array of hardware, including the NIMA New Talent of the Year and multiple Queensland Music Awards, most recently being named Indigenous Artist of the Year for 2025.
Her rise has been supported by a series of high-profile opening slots for icons like Thelma Plum, King Stingray, and Tina Arena, but 2026 sees her firmly in the spotlight as a headliner. After supporting Jessica Mauboy at City Recital Hall on May 1st, Jem will head to the Sydney Opera House on Friday, May 29th for a highly anticipated headline performance at Vivid LIVE.
The show marks a triumphant return to the iconic venue following her standout performance during the 2025 ABC New Year’s Eve broadcast. With her celestial vocals and a knack for weaving cultural richness into indie-pop grooves, Jem Cassar-Daley’s 2026 is shaping up to be her most defining year yet.
