Gypsy Lee Breaks the Silence with Stark New Anthem ‘Snitches’

The Melbourne music scene has a habit of producing artists who feel like old friends from the first note, but few have arrived with the sheer magnetism of Gypsy Lee. Following a breakout period that saw her transform from a curious "one to watch" into a genuine indie-pop powerhouse, the Melbourne-based singer-songwriter is officially turning the page. Her latest offering, ‘Snitches’, isn't just a new single; it’s a defiant, rhythmic manifesto that sets the stage for her highly anticipated 2026 EP.

Moving away from the lush textures of her 2024 debut 'Pretty In The Dark', ‘Snitches’ is a masterclass in minimalist tension. Interestingly, the track—co-written with long-time collaborator and producer THRONES (Andrew Lowden)—features absolutely zero traditional instruments. Instead, the soundscape is built entirely from Gypsy’s own vocal layers and found-sound percussion, using everything from sharp handclaps to the visceral thud of slamming doors to drive the point home.

The inspiration for the track was born from the aches of her first major heartbreak, though the result is far more empowering than your typical breakup ballad. “I was less upset by the loss of the person, more the actions that ended the relationship." Gypsy shared. "There’s an anthemic quality to the song - not just for me, but perhaps for women everywhere - a call out of the bullshit some boys put them through. I’m not a blow up doll, a barbie or your property. I am completely myself and I’m not afraid to call you out - or snitch.”

The accompanying music video, helmed by director Glen Wilk, serves as a perfect visual companion to the track’s raw energy. It leans into a vibrant, slightly chaotic aesthetic that mirrors Gypsy’s multifaceted artistry. Speaking openly, Gypsy shared: “I wanted a video that captured everything I am, everything I’m not and what I could be. I can be fun, I can be messy, I can be ugly, I can be your dream girl. What I won’t be, however, is silent."

Having already conquered legendary stages like The Espy and Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory, Gypsy Lee is proving that her studio innovation translates perfectly to a live setting. As she prepares to drop a fresh body of work later this year, it’s clear she isn't just following the pop blueprint—she’s rewriting it.
