DROPSINK Level Up on New Single, 'impressions (she said)'

Since bursting onto the scene in 2024, Adelaide's indie-punk crew DROPSINK have clearly been a band in a hurry. Having spent the last year refining a raw, aggressive sound inspired by Australian legends like Violent Soho and DZ Deathrays, they’ve now hit a new creative gear with their latest single, the cracking track ‘impressions (she said)’. This is a band pushing past their sonic foundations and confidently stepping into fresh musical territory.

The new single follows previous releases 'Animal' and 'Care At All', but marks a notable progression, showcasing not just the fun, natural chemistry within the group, but a real commitment to tackling tough subjects with passionate, meaningful songwriting. The band themselves describe the song as “focusing on recovery from addiction and social anxiety, and the implications that come with these things.”

This emotional honesty is channelled into a heavier, more dynamic aesthetic. The band highlights a significant shift in their process, driven by the welcome of a new member:

“‘impressions (she said)’ was written as we welcomed Simon [Banaag, bass] into the band. Welcoming a new member allowed us to expand our sound, making production more dynamic, as well as adding backing vocals to our music. ‘impressions’ is the first of a fresh direction of songwriting which DROPSINK have taken, drawing from a new set of influences and focusing on meaningful lyric writing and a heavier aesthetic.”

The resulting track is an immersive and confident statement that sits perfectly within the burgeoning South Australian punk scene. It’s clear DROPSINK have been busy, earning favourable attention from triple j Unearthed and scoring a nomination at the 2025 South Australian Music Awards. They’ve also been a consistent fixture on the local live circuit, supporting acts from around the country like Surf Trash, Mac The Knife and Semantics.

Accompanying the new single is a gripping official music video, a collaborative effort directed by Ethan Shillabeer, Harry Verner and Alannah Underdown, which only adds to the track’s punchy atmosphere.

For anyone looking to catch this rising outfit live, DROPSINK are throwing a special launch party for 'impressions (she said)' next month. They'll be heading to The Austral on Friday, December 12th with support from The Hazys and Sacrificial Larynx. If this track is anything to go by, it’s going to be a loud one.
