Death Valley Dream Cult Defy the Machine with Debut Single

,In a city often criticised for its polished veneers and algorithmic predictability, Los Angeles duo Death Valley Dream Cult are emerging as a necessary antithesis. Comprised of 23-year-old Greta Janssen and 19-year-old Nate Ascending, the pair are carving out a space where grit meets glamour, and the shadows are just as important as the spotlight.

The origin of the band reads like a classic rock ‘n’ roll survival story. Like many burgeoning talents in the Hollywood Hills, the duo initially found themselves entangled in an industry apprenticeship that promised the world but demanded their souls in return. They quickly realised that the "golden ticket" came at the cost of their creative instincts. Walking away from that suffocating structure wasn't just a career move; it was a reclamation of their identities.

Reflecting on that period of lost agency, Nate recalls: “My whole identity was thrown away. He helped me create a new one, but it felt like it was his. And then I had to buy it back. But Greta helped me realise that everything I need is inside of me and that it always has and always will be. Then I was able to create from a place of joy, excitement, and genuine enthusiasm, rather than fear.”

Greta echoes this sentiment of self-reliance: “I was looking for someone to give me the answers, being an artist is a vulnerable thing. You are figuring out who you are and then how to sell it. The idea that someone could come along and tell you exactly how to do that is very appealing. The reality is that it has to come from you. You're the only person who knows who you are and everyone else is going to project onto you.”

Their debut single, ‘Death of Creation’, serves as the manifesto for this new chapter. Produced by London’s Tom Saint, the track is a masterclass in controlled chaos, blending the vintage swagger of The Rolling Stones and Hendrix with the modern, aggressive edges of Turnstile and Bring Me The Horizon. The song hinges on the powerful mantra: “Complacency is the death of creation.”

Now operating within a thriving DIY collective of underground LA creatives, the band are building more than just a discography; they’re building a community. With their debut EP slated for 2026, Death Valley Dream Cult aren't just looking to join the industry—they're looking to redefine it.
