Long Island pop-rock stalwarts Nine Days are set to make their highly anticipated Australian debut this November, bringing their celebrated sound to East Coast venues for a series of unforgettable shows. The tour marks a significant milestone, celebrating 25 years since the release of their breakthrough LP, 'The Madding Crowd', and its enduring hit single, ‘Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)’.
For a quarter of a century, ‘Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)’ has remained a staple of US pop-rock, its buoyant storytelling and signature arrangements captivating listeners globally. The track not only earned the band double-Platinum certification but has also racked up over 175 million streams on Spotify alone. Its recent resurgence in popular culture, notably in the Oscar-winning film 'Everything Everywhere All At Once', has introduced the classic to a whole new generation.
The upcoming Australian tour, presented by MRG Live, has been a long time coming, and the band is visibly thrilled about finally connecting with their dedicated fanbase down under. John Hampson, Nine Days’ vocalist and songwriter, shared his excitement: “We have been waiting 25 years for this opportunity! Over the years, fans from Australia have reached out to us wanting to know when we were going to make it there to play some shows. Well, now we can finally give them an answer – this November!”
Hampson also fondly recalled a unique Australian connection to the band's history. “I collect all the cool things that Sony Records put out for the band, and I always loved the CD single they pressed back in 2000 that had some “bonus“ live and unplugged recordings we did in Seattle. As far as I can tell, Australia was the only country where these CD singles were sold. For some reason, this fascinated me. This year we celebrate 25 years of 'The Madding Crowd' album, and 'Absolutely (Story of a Girl)' and I cannot wait to finally make it down under to hopefully meet some of those people who’ve been waiting for quite a long time to see the band; and if you happen to have one of those CD singles, please bring it with you. See you in November!”
The longevity of ‘Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)’ speaks to the band’s knack for crafting earnest, relatable narratives within catchy sonic landscapes. While sometimes labelled a "one-hit wonder," the track's consistent airplay since its 2000 release, peaking at #31 on the ARIA Singles Charts, proves its enduring appeal. This special anniversary tour provides Nine Days with a renewed vigour, embarking on a fresh chapter and solidifying their bond with fans, both old and new.
