Brisbane's own indie-rock darlings, Bean Magazine, are set to light up stages across Australia this October with their much-anticipated 'Folly In The Shade' headline tour. Hot off the heels of supporting the legendary Ball Park Music on a massive 28-date run, and having previously shared stages with the likes of The Rubens and Hockey Dad, the trio – Henry Creamer (guitars and vocals), Gabrielle Beiers (drums), and Seb Baren (bass) – are ready to command their own spotlight.
The tour is a celebration of their recent EPs, 'Folly' and 'In The Shade', which have firmly cemented their place as a band to watch. Their sound is often described as a vibrant blend of punk energy, heartfelt indie-rock, and classic riffs that stick with you. Reviews of 'Folly' have praised its ability to mix "thrashing guitar riffs and infectious sing-alongs" with "softer, thoughtful moments," showcasing a band confident in turning self-deprecating humour into seriously catchy tunes. Henry Creamer himself has said that 'Folly' is "about being a fool and having a bit of a laugh at yourself."
Their earlier EP, 'In The Shade', also garnered acclaim for its raw energy and cathartic vocal performances, drawing comparisons to 90s grunge. Despite the "sun-soaked" tag that sometimes follows them, Henry points out their "more grungier roots," indicating a diverse sonic palette that keeps their music fresh and engaging.
Bean Magazine's live shows are renowned for their infectious energy, transforming venues with their "bombastic sound that felt immense for three people to be making." Having made waves at industry showcases like BIGSOUND and SXSW Sydney, their reputation as a must-see act precedes them.
The 'Folly In The Shade' tour kicks off in Adelaide at The Ed Castle on Friday, 3rd October, before heading to Melbourne's Bergy Room on Saturday, 4th October. Sydney gets its turn on Friday, 17th October at The Trocadero Room, and the tour culminates in their hometown, Brisbane, at Black Bear Lodge on Friday, 24th October. They'll be joined by special guests Puree for all dates.
Adding to the excitement, the band has announced a tour-exclusive 'Folly In The Shade' vinyl, compiling both EPs. This limited-run release will be available for pre-order when purchasing tickets and at the merch desk at shows, subject to availability.
