Pop’s rising star Reese Warren has just dropped her anticipated eighth official single, ‘Treats You Well’, and it’s a powerhouse of raw emotion and real-life betrayal. Moving past the sweet sounds of early romance, this track signals a significant evolution for Reese, delving headfirst into the sting of a calculated deception where a supposed friend infiltrated her life with the sole aim of driving a wedge in her relationship.
Recorded at the acclaimed A440 Records and masterfully produced by Angie Venegas, the song’s authenticity and vocal storytelling have already captivated fans. "Treats You Well" is more than just a song; it's a cathartic moment of finding strength after discovering the entire friendship was a lie.
This latest release showcases Reese Warren’s move into a more mature sound, with some even calling it her ‘Neo Soul Era’. Her growing confidence as an artist and a songwriter shine through as she discusses the painful-yet-liberating story behind the track, her creative process, and the advice she has for other aspiring musicians. In our chat, Reese also shares her songwriting secrets, talks about winning the prestigious ‘Best Emerging Female Artist’ award at the LA Film Festival 2025, and reveals what’s next on the horizon, including a forthcoming collaboration.
Hi Reese - it’s so great to be able to catch up with you, thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions. When did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“Hi there! Absolutely. It’s a pleasure to be here. Thank you for having me. I switched over from musical theatre to POP/R&B when I was ten. I started working on original music and wrote my first song when I was eleven. I knew I wanted to be a professional performer from the time I was 3 years old. I am inspired by many other artists and the world around me.”
Can you tell us a bit about your new track, ‘Treats You Well’, and what it means to you?
“‘Treats You Well’ is my first song that deals with more mature subject matter. It is sort of a coming out showing me as an older artist. I am not singing about my first crush, but rather what one deals with being in a relationship. My style and voice on what type of artist I am becoming starts to show with this song. It is very special to me.”
Were there any artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you when writing the song?
“This song is inspired by my personal experiences. I collaborated with Jasmine Peters, an awesome songwriter, to help organise my thoughts into lyrics.”
How would you describe your sound on your latest release? This is now your 8th song you’ve released, has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“I have been told that I am in my Neo Soul Era. LOL. I don’t want to pigeonhole me into a group or genre of music. I can say that I am growing as an artist and finding my voice, my sound. I am influenced by many artists, and I know what feels good to me and what I connect with. My music has changed and evolved as I have grown and evolved. I am not a little girl anymore.”
What was your songwriting process? How does it all come together?
“I usually write in my bedroom. I have many lyrics written looking for the right beat and fit to make full songs. Once I have a lot of the lyrics written, I go into the studio and work with my producers to create a beat that is the vibe and emotion I am looking for to go with my lyrics. I cannot complete the song without having the beat. The whole process goes together.”
What’s the most important thing when you’re writing a song?
“The most important thing when writing a song... IS TO WRITE IT. It doesn’t have to be perfect or done. It could be just a thought or a piece of something. Write it down. I go back to lyrics I have written months earlier when it fits something I am working on.”
Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey in your latest release? Is there a moment in the release that really captures that idea?
“The song tells the story of betrayal turned strength — when false friends and broken trust reveal their true colours. My vocals and storytelling make this song both fierce and cathartic. It’s for anyone who’s chosen peace over revenge.”
What advice would you give to bands and artists who are just starting out and trying to find their sound?
“My best advice would be to stay true to yourself. Your identity will emerge as you work and put out your work. Be humble, kind and professional. Work with many people and find your circle that believes in you and will work hard with you with the future in mind and not just immediate money in the pocket. Take your time but be consistent. Don’t give up.”
What has been your best moment as a musician so far?
“My best moment as a musician so far just happened! I won ‘Best Emerging Female Artist’ from the LA Film Festival 2025. Being recognised for one’s work is absolutely the best feeling in the world.”
What comes next for Reese Warren – more new songs? Collaborations? Live performances?
“What comes next... I have a song ready to release with the amazing brothers' duo Mason & Julez. We will be announcing a release date on that very soon! I am in the studio and have another song almost finished. I am working on an EP and looking forward to starting to tease that out a bit.
