Rising star Mila Nabours has quickly made a name for herself as a singer, songwriter, and actress. Hailing from Los Angeles and the daughter of professional musicians, Mila is known for her introspective storytelling and vibrant pop sound, which serve as a perfect soundtrack for the complexities of youth. With previous releases like the EP ‘Vision’ and singles such as ‘In My Thoughts’ and ‘Microwave,’ she has consistently explored themes of self-discovery and personal growth.
Now, the 19-year-old is back with her latest single, ‘Fever Dream’, a heartfelt collaboration with fellow artist Sage Sam that captures the surreal, uncertain feeling of young adulthood. It’s a fittingly introspective journey that reminds us to embrace the process of becoming rather than rushing to the finish line. To celebrate the release, we sat down with Mila to discuss the inspiration behind the track, her creative process, and what it’s like to navigate the music industry while still discovering yourself.
It’s wonderful to have this chance to chat with you, Mila. Let’s start at the very beginning. When did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“I really stepped into music at the start of COVID. Life slowed down, and I was introduced to the incredible producer Andrew Lane, who opened the door for me—teaching me what it meant to write and record as an artist. From there I started collaborating with amazing writers, releasing original music, and performing on stages around the world. Both of my parents are classical musicians, so music was always the language at home. I’d sung for years, but the quiet of that period gave me space to take it seriously and finally build the career I’d always imagined.”
Can you tell us a bit about your latest single and what it means to you?
“My latest single, ‘Fever Dream’, was co-written and produced by Sage Sam. We wrote it as teens standing on the edge of who we were and who we were becoming—accomplishing a lot but still figuring out our place in a bigger world. The song lives in that strange, electric in-between: hopeful, anxious, excited, and honest about the confusion that comes with growth. It means a lot to me because it captures a version of myself I was actively stepping into while we made it.”
Were there any artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you when writing the project?
“Writing with another artist means you get deep real fast—about your life, your hopes, and the stories you carry. Those conversations always push me toward the most authentic idea. Most of my music sits in the realm of self-discovery and performing it live has been freeing and eye-opening. Being on stage and seeing the songs connect in real time keeps me grounded in why I make music in the first place.”
What is your songwriting process? How did it all come together on the single?
“Usually, my producer builds a track around the mood or concept I’m chasing. From there, lyrics and melody arrive together—line by line, feeling by feeling—until the puzzle starts to click. I like the melody to mirror the energy of the words. Once it’s written, we’re in the studio cutting leads and harmonies in a way that serves the song’s vibe, and then my producer/engineer shapes the final vision in the mix.”
What’s the most important thing when you’re writing a song?
“Authenticity. I write from whatever is true to me in that moment—raw feelings, messy edges and all. I also love leaving space for interpretation so listeners can find their own meaning inside the lyrics. That bit of abstraction often makes a song more personal for the person hearing it.”
How would you describe your sound on the single, and has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“’Fever Dream’ feels airy and uplifting—there’s a euphoria to it—anchored by a steady beat and a melody that grows into the chorus. We wanted the sound to feel like the title: that slightly unreal, alternate place you visit when your emotions are big and everything feels possible. I’ve definitely evolved since I started; I’m more intentional with my writing now, and I trust my instincts more when it comes to sonics and storytelling.”
Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey in your latest release? Is there a moment in the release that really captures that idea?
“The heart of ‘Fever Dream’ is the tension between anxiety and hope—the teenage dream of what’s ahead, and the uncertainty that rides with it. The lift into the chorus is that feeling crystallized: you’re in your head, but you’re also choosing forward motion. It’s about embracing change rather than rushing it.”
What advice would you give to bands and artists who are just starting out and trying to find their sound?
“Make the music you love to hear. Your sound will shift as you grow—let it. Pull from your influences but filter everything through your own perspective. Be patient, be consistent, and create for the right reasons. When it’s honest, people feel it.”
What has been your best moment as a musician so far?
“Hearing a finished song for the first time still gives me chills. But performing it live and feeling that energy reflect back—those goosebumps—that’s the best. It’s the purest form of expression for me.”
Is there anything you would like to say to our audience before you go?
“Thank you for listening, streaming, sharing, and showing up. Your support keeps me inspired and brave enough to keep evolving. I’m excited for everything that’s coming next, and I’m grateful you’re on the journey with me.”
