Bringing a refreshing blend of New York swagger and DMV authenticity, Shida P is rapidly becoming a name you can’t ignore. Born in NYC and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, her Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage fuels a sound that is as diverse as her upbringing. While she’s already made waves as a radio personality—interviewing heavyweights like Gillie Da Kid—and appeared in high-profile videos with legends like Mr. Cheeks, Shida is now firmly stepping into the spotlight as a solo powerhouse.
Affiliated with Soldier Ent, she’s been honing a style that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. Her latest single, ‘C4’, is the 2026 R&B drop that’s currently lighting up digital platforms from Apple Music to Amazon. Following the success of her track ‘Contigo’, which earned her significant blog buzz and a nod from Benzino, ‘C4’ represents a pivotal breakthrough for the artist.
We recently caught up with Shida to chat about her Queens roots, the influence of her Abuela Lorraine, and how she’s navigating her journey from family cookouts to the top of the charts.
Thanks so much for joining us today! Let’s take things right back to the start of your career. When did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“I first started making music with my cousins Aisha and Nya. We formed a group called Azucena. When I was a kid we would sing at the family cookouts. I officially started my solo career in around 2015. What inspired me is my upbringing. I grew up in the house with my Abuela who would play music all the time. Her name was Lorraine. I also had a cousin Keith who was in the music industry and MC Shan who was known as my cousin due to the fact that he attended family cookouts. I was a kid, but he used to come to my great grandfather’s cookout in Queens, NY.”
Can you tell us a bit about your latest release, ‘C4’, and what it means to you?
“My release ‘C4’ is a release that opens up a new chapter in my music career and journey as an artist. It means a lot to me as the beginning of a journey into Shida’s music.”
Are there any artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you when writing the release?
“Shout out to King Ki and Show Me Face who have been influential in the production of the song.”
What was your songwriting process for ‘C4’? How did it all come together?
“I sat in my friend's basement and wrote for a night and came up with the song. My friend King Ki was influential in the writing and development.”
How would you describe the sound on your latest release? Has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“I would describe it as a laid-back R&B track, but it has a monster meaning when you listen.”
Can you shine a bit of a light on what that monster meaning is?
“The central message is a breakthrough. Just breaking through life’s difficulties.”
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist? Where do you see yourself in the next few years, both musically and personally?
“My aspirations as an artist are to live my dream full-time and become on the top ten on the Billboard charts. I just want to be successful!”
What’s next after this release? Do you have any new releases or shows on the horizon?
“After this there is a new song coming out; I don’t want to spoil the surprise but be on the lookout for new music. I have many radio interviews and iHeart shows on SNTRadio at 98.3 BPME.”
What sort of reception have you had to your latest release? Are there any memorable moments that stand out?
“Great! It got me into some hip-hop blogs and even a magazine shout out from Benzino. And, yes! All the requests for interviews.”
Is there anything you would like to say to our audience? How can they connect with you and help support you?
“I would like to say thank God number one and Soldier Ent for believing in my music and allowing me to be creative. Shout out to my family, friends and fans who help support me. I do this for my Gma, mom and aunt, RIP to all three of them, and I know they are shining their light on me.”
With ‘C4’ already carving out a space for her in the R&B world, it’s clear that Shida P is only just getting started. Her blend of resilience and raw talent, backed by a genuine connection to her roots, makes her one of the most exciting prospects of 2026. Whether she’s behind the mic at a radio station or delivering smooth vocals in the studio, Shida P is a name we expect to see climbing those Billboard charts very soon.
