XIMERMJ’s ‘Connectivity’ Is a Dark Pop Statement

After the playful experimentation of his earlier effort, ‘trivial truths’, New York electronic producer XIMERMJ, has returned with 'Connectivity', an instrumental track that is anything but trivial. Following an eight-month pause from releasing music, this new track signals a confident shift for the independent artist, steering his digital-pop sound towards a darker, more reflective, and exploratory current. It's the first hint of his second EP, due out in early 2026, and if this single is a marker, we're in for a complex journey.

As with many of his previous releases, 'Connectivity' does away with any notion of a simple beat or a shallow stylistic experiment. Instead, it wields the characteristic electronic glitch not as a gimmick, but as a genuine narrative device, weaving fragmented beats and distorted textures into a sonic representation of recent global and personal upheaval. The soundscape feels like an internal monologue, replacing vocals with rising and falling melodic motifs that speak volumes without a single lyric. There’s a tension, an almost mechanical, restless rhythm that simmers beneath it all. It’s what keeps you hooked, drawing you in time and time again.

Infused in the track is the ghost of 90s and early 2000s alternative rock, the kind that prioritised mood and impact in equal measure, yet its structure and execution is fresh and modern, aligning closer to electronic pop’s more adventurous producers. It’s a visceral balancing act between a nostalgic grit and a sharp, future-forward precision.

Throughout ‘Connectivity’, there’s a knowing sense of catharsis clearly struck the artist himself, who noted that the song came from a place of genuine feeling, “It just wasn’t feeling right maybe I was in an artistic block but it struck me right from that and kinda that’s what emulated the song and what will continue to contribute towards this next EP I am working on as an independent artist.”

Ultimately, 'Connectivity' serves as a clear, impactful reset. It sounds like an artist who has taken a step back, observed the chaos, absorbed the pressure, and channelled it all into a meticulously crafted sonic response. It's a dark, captivating relaunch statement, proving that instrumental pop can carry just as much emotional weight and ambition as any vocal-led track.
