XIMERMJ Explores Digital Decay Under the Desert Sun on New EP

Buffalo-based electronic producer XIMERMJ is set to release his third EP, ‘Desert Distortion’, out on 13 November 2026. For this eight-track release on his own label Richner Records LLC, XIMERMJ leans into the visual and tactile aesthetics of a deteriorating Palm Springs utopia. The project moves away from clear genre definitions, merging indie dance, techno, and ambient experimentalism to create a sprawling instrumental landscape focused on atmosphere and digital decay.

The EP opens with the echoing ‘Under Pressure’, a wandering introduction where bright, dramatic tones pierce the heavy ambience. From there, ‘Sun Damage’ accelerates with sparkling harmonics that eventually plunge into a driving, brutalist space. This stark shift is briefly paused by the light, rhythmic stepping of ‘Mirage Protocol’, which continuously evolves and folds in on itself through cultivated digital changes.

As ‘Desert Distortion’ progresses, the atmosphere grows darker. ‘Invaluable’ builds on heavy bass tones, creating a lingering sense of foreboding. Even the seemingly straightforward ‘Headway’ gets pulled into this experimental orbit, flooded by stuttering beats and cascading harmonics. The nocturnal pulse of ‘Fault Line’ deepens the mood further before giving way to ‘Desert Signal’, where an 8-bit aesthetic clashes with deep, swarming bass notes and rhythmic digital pulses.

The EP culminates with ‘Afterburn’, which originally dropped last month as the lead single. Here, XIMERMJ’s slow-burn architecture explodes into a glitching, kaleidoscopic maelstrom. Slicing synths charge through dense, grit-infused rhythms, highlighting his ability to balance complex layering with razor-sharp clarity. It’s the perfect anchor for a project obsessed with the contrast between polished modernism and faded realities.

‘Desert Distortion’ proves XIMERMJ has built a defined, immersive world around his production, where the imagery of empty pools and damaged colours are just as vital as the synths and samples.
