The Deep Hour Make Their Mark with An Impressive Debut

When a debut single arrives with the weight of an international collaboration and the backing of David Bowie’s musical director, you sit up and listen. The Deep Hour, a punchy indie outfit hailing from the scenic docks of Cobh, County Cork, have officially landed with ‘The One’, and it is every bit the soaring, widescreen anthem we’ve been expecting.

At the heart of the project is Brian O’Glanby, a seasoned songwriter and filmmaker whose journey has taken him from the 1980s UK scene to a prolific 14-year stint in Amsterdam. After years of writing for others, including hits for the Pop Idol franchise, Brian has finally turned the lens inward. The result is a sound that feels familiar yet entirely fresh, nodding to the melodic grandeur of Coldplay and Elbow while retaining the raw, grit-under-the-fingernails honesty of Oasis.

Recorded at the legendary Ocean Studios with producer Wayne P. Sheehy, ‘The One’ is a masterclass in atmospheric indie-rock. It boasts an incredible pedigree, featuring the likes of Gerry Leonard (Bowie) and Paul Linehan (The Frank and Walters). But despite the star-studded roster, the track remains grounded in Brian’s vulnerable vision. He describes the creation of the upcoming album, ‘Through Your Eyes’, as a transformative experience: "After an intense emotional awakening I found myself immersed deep in a sublime writing process, a vulnerable out-pouring of the soul."

That vulnerability translates into a timely, thought-provoking narrative. ‘The One’ isn't just a catchy tune; it’s a bold reflection on our current democratic struggle, questioning our ability to find a leader who can truly unify a fractured world. Musically, it delivers on this weight with a driving rhythm and shimmering guitar layers that build toward a climax both urgent and hopeful.

"What started as a solo songwriter album soon evolved into an incredible international collaboration with some of the world’s most renowned musicians," Brian notes, and you can hear that scale in every bar. It’s rare to find a debut that feels this finished, this purposeful, and this necessary. If ‘The One’ is the benchmark, The Deep Hour are about to become your new favourite obsession.
