MUANH doesn’t rely on a massive chorus or stadium-sized percussion to command attention. Instead, the Berlin-based artist builds a world through the crackle of quietude and the weight of what remains unsaid. Her latest single, ‘u wanna have it’, serves as the opening chapter for her forthcoming concept EP, ‘Hush’, and it immediately establishes her as a songwriter who prioritises a lingering mood over immediate gratification. Drawing on a palette that will resonate with fans of Clairo’s domestic warmth or the hazy, nocturnal R&B of The Marías, the track manages to feel both deeply personal and curiously cinematic.
The song’s DNA is rooted in a minimalist loop MUANH built within her DAW, anchored by a JX-style synth pad that carries a distinctively Lynchian, Twin Peaks air. It’s a deliberate choice that mirrors the lyrical content: a post-mortem of a relationship where the edges have begun to fray. "The lyrics were written while reflecting on a memory in which softness was still present, but something underneath had already begun to crack," she explains. This friction is the heart of the track. While the melody feels like a lullaby, the underlying tension suggests a slow-burning resentment.
To flesh out this skeletal bedroom-pop demo, MUANH moved into the studio with Phillip Kwaku, enlisting Lars Cölln on electric guitar and Björn Kröger on bass. These live additions provide a grounded, organic pulse that prevents the track from floating off into pure abstraction. The bass hums with a restless energy, ensuring the "bittersweet and unresolved" atmosphere never quite settles into a comfortable groove. MUANH describes the paradox at the centre of the work perfectly: "At its core, ‘u wanna have it’ lives from a contradiction. Softness becomes a shield, while the truth slowly presses through."
As a self-produced independent release, the single demonstrates a level of restraint that many emerging artists struggle to find. She avoids the temptation of over-polishing the sound, opting instead for a textured intimacy that rewards listeners who prefer to lean in rather than scroll past.
It’s a bold start to the ‘Hush’ era, promising an EP that unfolds with the slow, deliberate pace of a secret being whispered. If this track is any indication, the upcoming project will be a sanctuary for those who find power in the understated.
