Lucy Care Delivers A Coastal Breeze of Retro-Pop on Debut EP

Cornwall has a knack for producing distinct creative voices, but few arrive with the same sun-soaked assurance of St Ives teenager Lucy Care. At just fifteen years old, the singer-songwriter has delivered her aptly titled debut, ‘Sunkissed’, a six-track EP that feels remarkably mature without losing the playful, vibrant energy of youth. Developed through her school’s songwriting project, Qube Records, the collection is a wonderfully cohesive slice of pop that effortlessly nods to the genre’s rich history while keeping its feet firmly in the present.

The title track opens the record with a gorgeous vocal hook and light, lingering guitar chords, establishing an easy, flowing style that flows into the lyrics. Lucy delivers carefree lines like "the days are long and the troubles few”, transporting you to a hazy summer afternoon. It sets a bright, optimistic tone that lingers throughout every track, creating a gentle, glistening thread that carries through every track.

'Under the Weather' shifts focus to layered acoustic guitar and a more spacious arrangement, growing slowly around introspective reflections and a building pop aesthetic. Elsewhere, the infectious rhythm of 'Really?' introduces a heavy bass line and undeniable funk dynamic that proves Lucy can command a dancefloor just as easily as a quiet room.

The EP's emotional core lies in 'Patience', where tender acoustic and haunting melodies shine throughout, offering some of Lucy’s most honest and vulnerable moments. It provides a striking contrast to 'From the Start', a highlight of layered melodies and a more pronounced drum beat that showcases an evolving soundscape, captivating listeners with its dreamy, textured sound.

Co-produced alongside Darren Roberts, the EP closes dynamically with 'Out of the Loop'. Stepping into electronic territory with cascading synths that bounce playfully through the overarching melody, the song uses a changing pace to add emotive weight, balanced by soaring choruses.

Currently bringing these tracks to life on stage, Lucy is proving that her stellar vocal ability and charismatic presence translate beautifully to the live circuit. To keep this bright new talent on your radar, be sure to follow her on Instagram, along with Qube Records.
