Home for the Weekend Dial Up the Pressure with ‘Fast’

Milwaukee’s alternative-rock trio Home for the Weekend have never been a band to settle for the quiet life, but their latest offering, ‘Fast’, feels like a deliberate gear shift into more aggressive territory. Arriving on the heels of their 2025 album ‘Dead Man Walking’, this new single finds the group abandoning any remaining restraint in favour of a sound that is as confrontational as it is rhythmically complex.

From the first beat, it is evident that the band—consisting of Derek Wiedmeyer, Nick Magestro, and Emmett Wood—has leaned into their heavier influences. The track is built on a foundation of drop-tuned riffs and a low-end that carries a genuine physical weight. Wood’s percussion is particularly striking here; it hits with a visceral, percussive force that gives the track a militant momentum. It is a song that manages to bridge the gap between the syncopated, chaotic energy of early 2000s nu-metal and the melodic sensibilities of 90s alt-rock without feeling derivative.

Lyrically, ‘Fast’ acts as a pressure valve for internal frustration and political exasperation. There is a palpable sense of indignance in Wiedmeyer’s vocal delivery, capturing that specific moment where quiet acceptance turns into a loud, necessary revolt. Despite the sonic density, the track remains impressively cohesive. Drummer Emmett Wood notes, “‘Fast’ pushed the boundaries for us as both musicians and producers, and we feel it showcases our skills more than anything else we’ve done as a band.” This technical growth is obvious; each member is given the space to demonstrate their individual prowess while remaining locked into a singular, driving groove.

Self-recorded and produced with a sharp, DIY edge, the single refuses to be pigeonholed. It’s heavy but avoids being suffocating, maintaining a melodic core that ensures the aggression has a purpose. As Wood puts it: “What I love most about ‘Fast’ is that it truly showcases what myself, Nick and Derek can do as musicians; each guy has a chance to shine in that song, but it never loses its cohesion.”

With the release of ‘Fast’, Home for the Weekend aren't just asking for a seat at the table of the Midwest’s burgeoning scene—they’re kicking the door down. You can stream the new single today, and for more, join them on Instagram and Facebook.
