Rising from the gritty, industrious pulse of Cleveland, Ohio, Frida and The Mann are proving that the most resonant art often starts in the most unassuming places. Formed in mid-2023 within the cramped confines of a local basement, the group was built on a foundation of "big dreams" and a commitment to emotional transparency.
Since adding bassist Stefan Johnson to round out their "sonic landscape," the quartet has skyrocketed, recently being crowned “Best New Artist” at the Cleveland Music Awards. Their latest offering, ‘Take It’, is a staggering testament to why they are the city’s most essential new export.
Their fourth track of 2025, ‘Take It’ was recorded at the renowned Lava Room Studios in Independence, produced by the band alongside Mike Brown. The track serves as a visceral exploration of the wreckage left by a toxic and abusive relationship. It is a song of reclamation, echoing the band’s founding mantra: “Make music that people can feel. Be unapologetic. Be raw. Be true.”
The track begins with a haunting, immersive soundscape that quickly pulls the listener into its gravity. As the guitars and drums lock into a melodic, alternative rock groove, the atmosphere feels both expansive and claustrophobic—a perfect mirror for the song’s lyrical theme of being "trapped in a relationship dominated by fear."
Throughout, the vocal performance is the undisputed centrepiece here; she begins with a velvety, understated drama that gradually scales into a powerhouse of raw energy. As the track reaches its crescendo, the mood shifts. It is a sharp bridge between tension and release, hitting with force and coming "straight from their soul."
‘Take It’ is more than just a polished indie-pop anthem; it is a defiant battle cry for anyone reclaiming their agency. As the band puts it, “You don’t have to ‘Take It’ anymore, you can stand up for yourself.”
