Wenallt Star Blast Back into the Light with a Retro-Futuristic Single

Welsh and Anglo creative outfit Wenallt Star have officially resurfaced, marking their long-awaited return after the widespread critical acclaim of their boundary-pushing 2025 record ‘…all her geese are swans’. Unveiling the first in a quartet of teaser tracks slated ahead of a full-length album arriving in December 2026, the collective—comprising David Lambert, Sean South, and Lucy Leland—deliver a vibrant, time-bending reimagining of the past. Their latest offering, ‘I Will Return (Again)’, breathes fresh life into Springwater’s 1971 instrumental piece, transforming vintage pop nostalgia into an evocative, multi-layered journey.

Rather than leaning on predictable arrangements, the group leans into the literary tradition of cut-up techniques pioneered by figures like William S. Burroughs and David Bowie. The track opens softly with fragile vocal harmonies floating across a quiet backdrop, punctuated by a solitary electric guitar that cries out into the expansive mix. As momentum builds, soaring anthemic guitars interlock with fragmented spoken-word passages, establishing a rich audio landscape that mirrors the band's penchant for literary exploration.

Reflecting on the track’s evolution, Cardiff-born, Lincolnshire-based David Lambert said, “Wenallt Star has come out from the darkness into the light. ‘...all her geese are swans’ saw me diving deep into my past, challenging memories, diaries, decisions. The new work came out of me letting go of the usual thinking patterns, being alert to chance occurrences, trusting the moment allowing me to adapt, change, hopefully enabling the work to fit into a wider cultural landscape, yet always influenced by the cut-up books!”

Producer Sean South echoed this sense of renewal, noting, “We’re building the work ‘next door’ to the last album rather than on top of it’. David’s cut-up, repurposed spoken texts and the diverse compositions continue to push the sonic storytelling envelope. Each one life’s ability to shock, amuse and confuse.”

While the vast ambient spaces and spoken passages occasionally demand a patient ear, the payoff is immensely rewarding. Accompanying the piece is bespoke digitally manipulated artwork created by Welsh multidisciplinary artist SnowSkull, who is designing unique covers for all eight upcoming single releases. The resulting track offers an absorbing, multi-sensory experience that proves Wenallt Star remain masters of cerebral, boundary-blurring soundscapes.
