Sydney alt-punk heroes SoSo are back on the scene, dropping their latest single 'Something More', a hard-hitting anthem lifted from their highly anticipated album, 'So Much For Second Chances', due out on November 14th. This track is less of a typical pop-punk singalong and more of a relatable battle cry for anyone stuck in the soul-crushing nine-to-five while chasing a bigger dream.
Frontman Rhys de Burgh opens up about the song’s raw, grounded concept, noting it's deeply personal to the band: "Essentially, it’s a reflection of where each of the band members is at – we each hold down careers to fund our dream of doing what we love for a living, which is making music. Throwing everything we have into SoSo with the hope it’ll take off so we can escape the 9-5 jobs we despise, but deep down understanding that it might never happen for us.”
This ambition to "escape" the daily grind directly fuels their unprecedented, data-driven goal: securing an ARIA #1 album for 'So Much For Second Chances'. It’s a bold move for an independent band, but SoSo aren’t just dreaming—they're executing. With millions of streams under their belt and a fiercely loyal, growing fanbase, they’ve already proven they can operate outside the traditional industry playbook. De Burgh even quit his day job last year to focus entirely on the band, pouring his energy into rewriting independent artist marketing, which has resulted in an Australian mailing list boasting over 10,000 subscribers.
The band isn’t afraid to call upon their community to help them achieve this milestone, reminding fans that “we’ve only got a shot at this thanks to fans like you guys who support us so much.”
Working with acclaimed producer Stevie Knight (known for his work with Yours Truly and Stand Atlantic), the new record signals a clear evolution in SoSo's sound. While retaining their signature ambitious and playful core, they’ve embraced heavier production, weaving in melodic pop vocal hooks alongside samples and synths. 'Something More' offers a tantalising glimpse into this sophisticated new era.
The single 'Something More' is available to stream now, with 'So Much For Second Chances' ready for pre-order via their website. Don't miss out on catching their high-energy chaos on their upcoming headline tour—tickets are on sale now!
